About
The Countervail is a contemporary art gallery based in Abuja, Nigeria committed to representing emerging and mid-career African artists. The gallery offers a dynamic approach to presenting local and regional talents, while showcasing a diverse range of artistic voices and perspectives, countering the notion of a monolithic African art scene. Through a range of outlets such as exhibitions, pop ups, art fairs, intercultural dialogues and our online media, we promote the visual arts in our community by contributing to curated experiences, local educational efforts and supporting regional and international art institutions.
Founders
Driven by the need to proliferate contemporary visions of art from this region, founders: Isaac Rindom Kumven and Maxwell Keyen envision a space where the world can engage with the compelling narratives, bold expressions, and transformative power of African artists, fostering cross-cultural understanding and inspiring positive change.
We are proud to draw attention to the burgeoning practice of echoing artistic African voices on the continent, and in the global art discourse by young Africans actively pushing boundaries and shaping the future of the art world.
